I just purchased a humidor and I need help seasoning it.?

The instructions that come with it say to put a shot gl of water in it over night etc.. The instructions I got off line say to wipe down the sides and bottom with a new sponge soaked with distilled water and leave the sponge ona plastic baggie in the humidor over night. What is the best way to season it and the most idiot proof. I need to get my cigars out of their boxes. I have the front hygrometer witha gl top. When do you attach the humidifier? Before or after the water put into the wood? Why does the hygrometer have a magnet on it if the box comes with a hole for it to go into? HELP!>!>!>!>!
