Question about the Pinewood Derby?

My son just joined Cub Scouts a few months ago. Neither of us have ever heard of the Pinewood Derby until the den gave us a car kit. I have no clue what to do with this thing. I'm a single mom, I don't have any woodworking tools. What exactly needs to be done with this thing? I don't want my son to miss out, but heck, I'm not a man and I don't have any tools. What do you guys suggest a single woman does to help her kid out with something like this??
