Who were some heroic soldiers who fought for historic evil empires?

I was commenting on Cracked's a href="http://www.cracked.com/article_18429_6-soldiers-who-survived-****-that-would-kill-terminator.html" rel="nofollow"http://www.cracked.com/article_18429_6-s…/a when I suggested I'd like to see a Cracked article "# Heroic Soldiers Who Fought for Historic Evil Empires". I found a href="http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?130836-Dutch-statue-for-Wehrmacht-soldier" rel="nofollow"http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/sho…/a doing an Ask.com search for heroic Wehrmacht soldiers. It occurs to me besides the Nazis, Persia, the Ottoman Empire, Imperial Japan, communist China (during the Chinese Civil War, or the Korean War), and North Korea could all be good candidates for evil empires in this article. Limiting criteria from my perspective is that from a western perspective the nation-states should have fought real, army against army, wars against countries that are themselves considered to be the good guys, from the western perspective. So, Soviet soldiers are kind of out, as are Iran and Iraq.
